Dear Duffy Families;
I am constantly impressed by the wisdom and
compassion of our children. There have been a
number of remarkable tragic events in our world and
community in recent days, and the efforts to help
have been amazing. I would like to thank all of you
for instilling this in your children and for modeling
this behavior.
It was powerful. When I heard of the
loss of a home by fire of a family in our school, Jodi
Robinson, our Service Project Chairperson
immediately began a coordinated effort to help this
family rebuild. Thank you to Jodi and to everyone
who so quickly and generously supported this effort.
The events and challenges in Haiti, unimaginable in
their scope of consequences, have motivated the
student council to coordinate three support efforts,
including a long term emergency initiative. Be on
the look out for more information on how we can
help them reach their goals.
Based on Governor
Rell’s recommendation, they have chosen to support
CAS (Connecticut Association of Schools) to ensure
that the money raised, safely reaches Haiti and
supports their needs. In addition, on January 20,
2010 a bill was passed in the House to allow
individuals who make charitable contributions to aid
Haitian earthquake victims to claim an itemized
charitable deduction on their 2009 tax return instead
of having to wait until 2010. A similar bill was
introduced in the Senate with the promise of swift
passage. The election would apply to Haitian relief
contributions made in cash after January 11, 2010,
and before March 1, 2010. A thank you goes to
Tracy Hains for sharing this information. Thank you
to all for your generosity.
If you missed fingerprinting/child ID service, Officer Dave has graciously offered to
return for one more session, Monday Feb. 8th. Please let us know if you like to schedule an appointment for Monday. email us
